~ SHARP AND BRILLIANT ~1884 MORGAN SILVER DOLLARSAN FRANCISCO MINTAGEGRADED AU58 BY PCGS

After this auction closes, please contact us at our toll free number (888) 454–0444 to confirm any of our eBay Second Chance offers on unsold items.

This sharp white 1884 San Francisco minted Morgan Silver Dollar graded AU-55 by PCGS,

is an elite member of one of the most scarcely populated Morgan Dollar Mintages.

This Morgan is very sharply struck, with prominent devices featuring crisp detail, especially in the focal points such as the hair above Liberty’s ear. Both sides are overall smooth and exhibit wispy, well-scattered abrasions as appropriate for the AU55 grade. The surfaces feature brilliant mint luster and a conspicuous cartwheel shine. This is a very beautiful coin whose eye-appeal would suggest a higher grade.

The 1884-S has an original mintage of 3.2 million pieces–a respectable total for a Silver Dollar of this type. Unlike most early S-mint Morgans, the 1884-S did not sit in federal vaults for decades. Instead, a large percentage of the mintage was distributed into circulation soon after striking, making the availability of worn examples in today’s market so high. This expedited circulation also explains the extreme rarity of the 1884-S in Mint State, rarity that has long been an infamous key-date Morgan Dollar and the steep price tag on any gem grade specimen.

While PCGS.com lists the AU55  as being currently valued at: $650.00

A PCGS  graded MS60 is currently valued at: $7,000.00

The PCGS choice MS64 is valued at: $120,000.00

With the pricing on such a steep sliding scale, a gem grade specimen is not so easily obtained. That’s why the AU55 is a preferred choice for the Morgan Dollar enthusiast. The 1884-S is among the most renowned S-mint issues in the Morgan dollar series in terms of difficulty. The rarity of this coin is infamous and this impressive piece is sure to have no difficulty finding its way into a Morgan Dollar set.  Don’t Miss out !
